Black College Football Xperience Doug Williams Edition Review

By Review Date: October 17, 2009 This review will look past the name of the game and attempt to dwell into the gameplay itself. BCFX Doug Williams edition is a nice plain football game. If you ever play NFL 2k5 or any other non EA football games of that area then get ready for the same style of gameplay. Graphically the game is polished.

That is not to say it looks as good as ncaa 10. Its a polished up Unreal Engine 3.0 translated into a football environment. There are times where the game looks real nice but other times you will see the averageness of it with almost all players looking and having the same dimensions. A basic season mode and normal team on team is here.

As I stated, the game really reminds me of a older genre game in the concept of what you can do. There is no create a player, nor franchise mode, etc etc. You have the basics. Pick a team, play season more or single player. Besides that you have the option to play any classic HBCU football battle such as the Bayou Classic that is yearly played in the Superdome of Louisiana between Southern and Grambling. When we look into the gameplay itself, you will find a general use of plays on offense and defense.

The game runs a bit quick. For example take NCAA 2010 and speed it up 1.5X. Kinda makes it more arcade then football sim in this regard. With all that said, there are a few problems. Throwing short passes or screens can be a hassle. If you just simply hike the ball and try the pass most times the pass with go incomplete. Its a bit aggravating on this respect but you can eventually figure out how to pull these plays off.

Also you have the classic football problems where recievers will not catch the ball at random times even if you lobbed the ball and he is 100% open. Also comes out a bit weak. On max difficulty it will only take you a few tries to become better then it. Sound is very special to HBCU schools. This game represents this to the fullest. Each schools band has been physically recorded and placed in the game. There drum cadences, school songs, and band songs are represented very well.
