If you can, could you pass details to my email and I will forward on. Dear Bill I wonder whether I might be able to tap into your network to elicit the help of the naval veterans community? To the Navy's great disappointment it does not have in its collection a photograph of Chief Petty Officer Reg Hunt who lost his life when HMAS Hobart was mistakenly attacked by a US aircraft while in Vietnamese waters in June 1968. I would dearly like to obtain a photograph of Reg so that we can properly commemorate his service to the RAN.
Is it possible you could appeal on my behalf to your veterans group to try and obtain a photograph of Reg? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Yours sincerely John. I am thinking of portraying Vamps as she looked in 1975/76. At this point she was still COMAUSDESRON 2 (white stripe and black funnel sock, and 2 on the red 'roo'), and I think she still had the FUB/LUB numbers on her boats? (still trying to determine the actual Numbers); but, I am still trying to determine if, at this point, she had the Type 182 Torpedo decoy fitted and was using the epoxy non-slip deck paint (Devron). My memory is that she received the ASW update during her late 74 / early 75 docking/refit? Possibly, during this refit she also had the decks repainted to use devron rather than the former black-washed sand paper patches? I have seen photos of Vendetta with the new deck paint in late 1974. The Royal Australian Navy has trained its own officers since 1913 with 2015 marking one hundred years since training commenced at Jervis Bay. In 1915 the Royal Australian Navy College moved from its temporary beginnings at Geelong to the new facilities at Captain's Point on the southern shores of Jervis Bay, New South Wales. Young men, of only 13 years old joined as cadet midshipmen and began their Naval and academic training in the very remote, yet pristine environment. One hundred years on, the College at is planning a celebration to coincide with the graduation of New Entry Officers' Course 52 on 17-18 June 2015.
